Abstract

The problem of poor waste management in Malaysia is one of the nation’s biggest issues to date. The country's buildup of solid waste is resulting in tremendous land and air pollution for the environment, and health problems for communities and bottlenecks to economic growth. This study is an initial exploration into the Klang Valley business organisations’ awareness on green management practices i.e. energy and water savings and reduce, recycle and reuse (3R) habits. This is a quantitative study conducted on business organisations in Klang Valley. The findings show that among 82 organisations participated, there are about 65.9% companies registered their awareness on the importance of 3R as there are posters/stickers encouraging employees to adopt the 3R movement, save energy and water throughout the offices. The majority of the organisations have more than 100 employees (37%), 31.7% has 11 - 50 employees, 20.7% has 50 -100 employees, while 9.2% has less than 10 employees. 65% of the company recycled papers, 55% recycled printer toners, 42% recycled cardboards and boxes, 40% recycled magazines, 39% recycled obsolete IT equipment whilst 40% recycled glass, plates and aluminum. These findings show that Malaysian has developed the awareness and are changing their habits on the 3R movement and the importance of green living.
